For your boy, maybe a longer cut or a bowl cut can get at that sad 80s look, although men's hairstyles haven't changed much. It's all about that sweet, sweet backcomb action. The bigger your girl's hair is, the more 80s. The rounder squircle shape could do a lot for the design, along with making the frame thicker. The 80s glasses are really particular with the chunky plastic frame and usually have a rounded edge. Your kiddo's glasses are both square with a wire frame. I think your designs are getting there, but lacking some specificity that'll make it '80s' and not modern. I have an 80s comic and there's a few things I do to make everything pretty obvious.
